First Drive: 2012 Jaguar XF

While Jaguar works far into the design of a new "right" C-segment car to replace the lamented X-Type (which is three to four years away), the rows XF as the volume model. As such, the company has been clucking and complaining about it almost constantly since its 2008 release. By 2012, the interior and exterior to get a good going-over. Exterior improvements were predicted by the CXF concept which appeared just before the release of the production and use technology that is now part of a production style that the concept of possible signals. Examples include LED daytime running lamp treatment (which has come to expect from cars in the class), and "Tron", look at the light sheet illumination of the rear lights, which now extends to the trunk lid.

The nose is all new, including the bumpers, fascia, grille and aluminum hood, which features a power bulge longer, taller and a small film on the trailing edge to remove air and noise wiper reduce wind. (XFRs also have functional output bell.) Hatch grille establishes an inch and a bit more upright to resemble more that of XJ, and comes in a chrome or gloss black finish (only XFR). The bell cutoff above the headlights lends the face a little more sinister grin. Chrome blades very little in the lower front panel has a touch more sculptural, while the XFR gets a much more aggressive chin sticking with two chrome-ringed air vents. (The one in the driver's side is blocked to improve aerodynamics, as it was necessary for cooling.)




Fender offices of graphic ornamentation for an elegant vertical horizontal over a candle in the form of "expulsion" of the CXF. Around the back, chrome base concealing the opening of the boot, reversing camera, lighting and license plate no longer period of Jaguar, and therefore has thinned strip visually piano black. A cat jumping over is centered on the chrome strip now offers brand identity, and new oval tailpipes replace the more difficult to align the trapezoid. R models get a new aerodynamic spoiler to balance the more aggressive front chin and the lower fascia looks Venturi (which is never very functional, with this much ground clearance). New wheels for all models to complete the exterior transformation.
 
 Inside, the style, but difficult to read silver switches replaced by the white-on-black-soft-touch buttons and the dashboard now includes a full color center post. The steering wheel and seats are new, and blue color combo-so-on is sure to delight all the Yacht Club, while the ivory stitching black dresses XFR seats. Carbon fiber also replaces wood in the model to go fast.


Not much new under the skin of U.S. models, but the rest of the world will have a third generation of 2. 2 liters I-4 diesel adapted from the Land Rover Freelander 2 (LR2), tuned to produce 187 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A significant improvement, however, is a novel start-stop feature worth noting, as it could be adapted for use in gasoline engines. What little upset about the start-stop 12-volt hybrid cars is not that the restart may take longer than you'd like, especially when just stopping the traffic clears, and you try to go again. Jaguar addresses this problem with an attack on two fronts. If an engine shutdown has been ordered and the engine is spinning faster than about 350 rpm, the fuel line (which remains under pressure), it simply resumes in both injection and compression cycles of the engine starts to operate new.



Below 350 rpm, the starter is needed, but instead of waiting for it to stop, then engage the starter gear and start the boot, the XF diesel can safely start the engine before stop rotate. This is accomplished by using a double solenoid starter that uses a solenoid to operate the starter motor and a separate one for moving the gear in mesh with the flywheel. On the motor pinion to the speed of the engine, there is no crisis when the pinion hits the steering wheel, and without wasting time restarting. The third technology that is a spring-piston accumulator in the ZF eight-speed automatic this engine is exclusively linked. For the restart, and its spring releases enough hydraulic pressure to make the switch elements needed to launch instant.



My experience only unit in the XF 2012 was with the diesel, and start-stop technology works splendidly, restart as soon as a high-voltage hybrid (like the Buick LaCrosse eAssist) stops in touch and go. Even the line breaks seem a little faster to go, because the gear is already engaged by lifting the brake. A second battery ensures that enough power to run all the ancillaries with the engine off (compressor A / C is still driven by the engine, however). Automatic shutdown can be turned off and locked whenever you are using the cams. Another interesting feature: If the auto-XF stops when it reaches its parking spot or garage, just unbuckle the belt and the transmission is shifted into park, then the engine shuts off completely.




The eight-speed shift quality is impeccable, delivering swift, decisive 8-2 downshifts when called to action, then float to the perfection of the relationship of proportion as a CVT, while to strut around town. The sooner we have this relationship transgender fuel efficiency, the better. Noise isolation is pretty good, and the acceleration is reasonably fast (8.0 seconds to 60 and a top speed of 140 mph are the estimates of company). Fuel economy is also outstanding in the equivalent of 43. 5 miles per gallon in much start-stop-friendly European combined cycle. It's a slam-dunk that XF should increase the market share of Jaguar in Europe, where 49 percent of segment CD is 5-series/upper four-cylinder diesel. However, that percentage is zero here, and no doubt this engine for anything more than a four-cylinder diesel engine, and therefore do not have to yearn for it. (It meets Euro 5 standards, but EPA and CARB, so it's not coming.) No, we'll probably be happier with future hybrid models, which global brand director Adrian Hallmark referred to in the works , along with four-wheel-drive to increase sales in the northern states. I tell you the amount of 2012's 5.0-liter variants pining for a value as soon as they get a ride this summer.
